Former French player, world champion and European champion (1998 and 2000), Robert Pirès stopped in Berck to speak from the heart in between Champions League matches. His wife Jessica and little Clara were by his side. A dream comes true for the young Mauritian...

His arrival didn't go unnoticed despite Robert Pires leaving his shorts and football boots at home.

This man certainly made his mark. The titles he won alongside Zidane, Deschamps and other icons will never be forgotten. He may have swapped the pitch for the technical area but now he's taken on a new role which suits him down to the ground. Robert Pirès is a patron of the "Le Rêve de Clara Association" founded by his wife, the beautiful Jessica. The London-based couple had a revelation when visiting the islands in the Indian Ocean. "Real life and all its drama is playing out behind the pools and palaces," says Robert Pirès. One day, he and his wife crossed paths with Clara, a 14 year old girl suffering from bone cancer. That was 18 months ago.

The Pirès couple were hooked. The charity was born. Clara and many other children have been given hope and Jessica and Robert have no plans to stop.

Little Clara has now had amputations and implants and is here, supported by the couple, for treatment by Dr Frédéric Charlaté and his team at the Hopale Group's Calvé Centre. Why Berck? Jessica Pirès replies, "It's the Reunion Island prosthetist Marcel Vaugeaois who told us the Calvé Centre was the best in the field. So one plane journey later and Clara and her mum arrived on the Channel coast." The young lady is receiving the best of Calvé's teams' knowledge until October 31st. "We're going to start from scratch, fit a new implant and our goal is for Clara to walk again without a crutch and maybe even run!" That's a real challenge.

"We're here to support Clara until the end, to show her that we're here for her."

There is a reason for Jessica and Robert being in Berck. "We wanted to show Clara that we're with her until the end," says Robert Pirès. Since they live in London, the couple are even considering returning to see their "protégée" during her time in Berck.

Clara isn't the only victim as Robert Pires and his wife know only too well. The Le Rêve de Clara Association will take care of other children from the Indian Ocean's islands who need treatment.

In the meantime, Clara has met her guardian angels in Jessica and Robert Pirès. What a life-changing encounter...
